It’s Time For Kids serves all eight regions of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, including Foster Children and Group Homes. We also work with youth in Gang Intervention and Probation Programs and ILP (Independent Learning Program). The children we serve are 6 – 18 years old.

Foster Children

Children in foster care have been removed from their homes due to physical or sexual abuse or neglect. Many times it is necessary for siblings to be separated into different homes. It’s Time For Kids tries to reunite siblings at our events and we often give them Polaroid pictures of all of them together. It’s Time For Kids provides these children with experiences that their peers take for granted, helping them to feel less different than other kids.

Group Homes

Housing anywhere from 6 - 120 children, group homes are an alternative to foster care. Many of these children cannot be placed in foster homes due to behavioral problems. Some are emotionally disturbed due to the abuse they have suffered. Most group homes have very limited or a lack of resources for recreational or cultural activities for their kids. Events provided by It’s Time For Kids are utilized as incentives by the group home staff for kids to stay on the “A” list for positive behavior.

ILP (Independent Learning Programs)

Foster children are emancipated from the Department of Children and Family Services system when they turn 18 years of age. ILP teaches the kids life skills for survival on their own and can assist with transitional housing. It’s Time For Kids provides activities them with activities to develop their social skills and help them to learn appropriate behavior in different public settings.

Gang Intervention

Gang intervention programs target at-risk youth to prevent them from choosing a life with gang members or encourage them to give up their existing association. Their programs include classes to prepare them to take the GED tests (for a high school equivalent diploma), money management and career opportunities. Tattoo removal is provided once per month at no charge. The activities provided by It’s Time For Kids are rewarded to the youth who stay in the program.

Probation Programs

Youth Probation programs encourage young first-time offender (ages 10 – 15) to stay in school and improve their behavior. Most of these kids are from very poor families and have had very limited recreational or cultural experiences. It’s Time For Kids tries to increase their self esteem by helping them to feel special and important at our events.

Out Of Town

When It’s Time For Kids is presented an opportunity for a recreational or cultural event in another city, we contact the Children’s Services Department and enable local children to enjoy the activity. Our Out-of-Town associates include the State of Nevada Child and Family Services and the Santa Clara Children’s Shelter.
